Welcome to the website home of the New England Brown Egg Council.
Our Council members are the suppliers and farmers who bring the fresh brown eggs from their farms to your table. As a region, New England is perhaps unique – we produce just about as many eggs as we consume. That’s because New England residents and our egg-laying hens have the same preference and specialty: Local Brown Eggs!
To be specific, across New England there are 6.6 million hens that produce 1.77 billion eggs a year, according to USDA egg production statistics. That’s more than 50 eggs a second laid in New England, every second, every year.
The farm value of these eggs is $111 million/year. That means a lot of jobs for New England, not only on our farms, but in our feed mills, our distribution centers, and among all the good people who provide goods and services to our farmers. And once our eggs leave the farm, the positive economic impact on New England continues through the distributors, suppliers, sales, marketing, merchandising and retail concerns that touch the New England Brown Egg industry with a projected total annual sales value (TSV) of $708 million!
